UMass Boston Names Brooks as Director of the New Balance Institute for Innovative Leadership in Sport

The University of Massachusetts Boston hired SCOTT BROOKS as director of the New Balance Institute for Innovative Leadership in Sport, which is housed in the College of Education and Human Development. Brooks, an author and sociologist, was also tapped as the new Dr. J. Keith Motley Endowed Chair for Sport Leadership and Administration. He most recently led Arizona State University's Global Sport Institute. "Scott brings an extraordinary combination of scholarship, industry experience, and a deep commitment to expanding opportunity through sport," UMass Boston Provost Joseph Berger said. "His leadership will help establish the New Balance Institute as a place where research, education, and the sports industry come together to develop the next generation of leaders." Brooks has two decades of experience coaching youth sports and consulting with sports leagues, including the NFL, MLB, NCAA and USA Basketball. He earned his PhD in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
