• Job Description The Governor's Council is a Constitutional office. It consists of eight members who are elected by the people throughout the eight districts. The Council is also known as the Executive Council. The Council provides their advice and consent to the appointment of all judges, clerk magistrates, members of the Massachusetts Parole Board, Administrative Judges of the Department of Industrial Accidents, the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board, Notary Publics and Justices of the Peace. The Council also approves the financial warrant that has been certified by the Comptroller's office and votes on computations and pardons recommended by the Governor. The Council must provide its advice and consent to the Governor's nominees, or they are not confirmed to the positions to which they have been nominated. Accordingly, the Council meets weekly to convene assemblies to vote on nominees and to conduct confirmation hearings on nominees.
