- Job Description The Chief of Staff collaborates closely with the Commissioner to ensure the departments’ mission and vision is carried out. Provide direction to senior level management regarding policy changes and updates. Directly supervises the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Communications whose staff includes communications, public affairs, legislative affairs, correspondence and public records requests. The Chief of Staff also supervises the Massachusetts Correctional Industries whose staff provides training and skills to offenders so they will have a successful reentry into the community through work opportunities. Assists the commissioner in setting the agency’s agenda to meet the overall mission of protecting the public by incarcerating offenders and providing opportunities to participate in programs that reduce recidivism. The Chief of Staff acts as the liaison to other state agencies.
